I'm Sophie, the founder/editor of Autisticulture. I'm AuDHD and chronically ill myself and I started the Autisticulture project in 2021 as a response to the biased and misleading narratives about autistic people in the media.
I was fed up with non-autistic people exploiting the stories and experiences of autistic people and misrepresenting us. Autistic representation in the media then fell almost solely into stereotypes, often dehumanising autistic people and reinforcing diagnostic biases.
Autistic people make up over 1% of the global population. We're a diverse group with a shared autistic culture. I wanted a space to celebrate this, and to reclaim representation through sharing where we do feel represented.
Autisticulture is a platform that amplifies the voices and experiences of the autistic community. We strive to challenge stereotypes, broaden narratives, and empower autistic individuals in all their diversity and complexity.

Autisticulture celebrates autistic culture and reclaims autistic representation, using popular culture as springboards to share experiences.
We're primarily a print magazine (produced on crip time), but we also share blog posts online (see "Blog") and collect headcanons on our Instagram page (see "Headcanon Gallery").
I encourage anyone autistic (whether formally or self diagnosed) to get involved, so that your views and experiences can be represented.
Autisticulture is a space for autistic joy, for sharing special interests, and for discussing our favourite characters and why we see them as autistic-coded, even if the creators haven't explicitly labelled them as such.

We don't just look at autistic headcanons - though these are great start-points for discussion to help ease into conversations, and they form the foundations for our content.
Anything related to autism and autistic experiences and culture as told by autistic people is welcome on Autisticulture -
whether that's an album review, a style opinion, a political take, an interview, or writing about your pebble collection and love of the sea. And if we haven't covered it yet, be the first to do so!
